Dear Parents,

I am able to confirm the situation, I expect for Wednesday, 1st February:

  • Daycare is unaffected and will be open to all children for scheduled sessions;
  • Nursery will be open as usual to all children attending their sessions on Wednesday including those accessing the 15 hours of learning and/or care.
  • Year 6 will be open as usual for teaching and learning.

Reception, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5 will not be open to children.

However, we will be offering care for as many children as we can safely manage, in these classes. Following the priority set out in their guidance by the Department for Education:

I currently expect that we can offer care throughout the day for:

  • Priority 1: All children eligible for a free school meal (This does not include the children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 who benefit from the universal offer, only those children who are eligible for a free school meal)
  • Priority 2: Then, if numbers allow, we will prioritise those children of ‘key workers’. This is more difficult and is not the keyworkers identified during the pandemic, as this is single days of action. So the priority lists public sector works (not involved in industrial action on the day, themselves) so for example, emergency services, hospital workers, public sector workers, transport workers . . . rather than people working in food production or distribution.

Please consider what you are going to be doing for your children on Wednesday, then on Monday:

  • We will telephone all the parents of children in priority one to confirm their attendance;
  • Parents requesting a ‘key worker’ place, please telephone school, with name of child and explanation of reason for request.

By 5pm on Monday, we will confirm by telephone those children in priority 2 that we can safely offer a care place for on Wednesday.

Again, I apologise for the uncertainty and disruption. I am trying my best and thank everyone for working with me to ‘get through’ yet another difficult time.

Your sincerely,

John Hardy
