Dear parents,
on Monday 12th October children in Year 2, Year 5 and Year 6 will be taking part in an NSPCC project called 'Speak Out Stay Safe'. Each class will be watching a presentation, run by staff at NSPCC, to highlight the importance of child safety.
Please find further details below.
If you would prefer your child does not watch this presentation please email admin@sjv.bhcet.org.uk to make the school aware, and we shall endeavour to remove them from the class while the presentation, which is around 30 minutes long, is shown.
Please be advised you only need to contact us to opt your child out. If we don't get a response we will assume you are happy for your child to watch the presentation.
NSPCC’s Speak out. Stay safe. programme
I am pleased to inform you that we are participating in the NSPCC’s Speak out. Stay safe. Programme this term. This is a programme for children aged 5-11 which aims to help children understand and recognise the signs of the different types of abuse. Children are taught to speak out if they are worried, either to a safe adult or Childline.
This child friendly, age-appropriate programme is fully aligned with the curriculum and consists of a short film and supporting classroom based activities which we have reviewed, alongside NSPCC volunteer led face to face workshops for children aged 6-7 and 9-11. The content is delivered in an engaging and interactive way with the help of the NSPCC mascot Buddy.

To find out more about the programme, please watch the NSPCC’s Speak out. Stay safe. ‘Introduction for Parents/Carers film’. Link or scan QR code. |
|
Parents and carers are asked to let us know if your child has experienced anything (in the past or happening now) which may mean they need extra support before, during or after taking part in this programme.

Feedback survey for pupils aged 7-11
The NSPCC would like to gather feedback from pupils aged 7-11 about the Speak out. Stay safe. programme to gauge their learning. This will be voluntary and children can still take part in the programme if they don’t take part in the survey.
-
All survey questions are multiple choice and focussed on the programme.
-
The survey is anonymous and confidential. However, if in the process of completing the survey, a teacher becomes concerned for a pupil’s welfare (e.g., through something a pupil says) we will follow our school’s safeguarding procedures.
-
If you do not want your child to take part in the survey, please contact the school via admin@sjv.bhcet.org.uk.
-
If you have agreed that your child can take part in the survey but your child changes their mind on the day, that is also okay.
I hope you find this information about the NSPCC and the Speak out. Stay safe. programme helpful. Please do contact me if you have any further questions.
Yours sincerely,
John Hardy
