This week, St John Vianney Catholic Primary School in Hartlepool proudly launched its involvement in the Bishop Hogarth Catholic Education Trust Media Correspondent programme. The Trust’s Media and Marketing team visited school to work with our newly chosen pupil correspondents and introduce them to the exciting world of news and digital storytelling.

A Special Introduction to Reporting and School Media

Our new Media Correspondents were officially welcomed into their roles and presented with their badges, signalling the beginning of their responsibilities as school reporters. They will play a key part in gathering stories, celebrating achievements and helping share the life of St John Vianney with the wider community.

The pupils spent the afternoon learning from the visiting media team, who offered insight into how stories are created and communicated across the Trust. Pupils discovered how to plan a news piece, prepare questions, work with filming equipment and think like a reporter. It was a valuable chance to see what happens behind the scenes in professional media work.

Contributing to a Trust Filming Project

As part of the visit, the pupils also took part in recording footage for a Bishop Hogarth Fratelli Tutti video. They supported the filming process and learned about the collaborative effort involved in producing shared content for schools across the Trust.

Their enthusiasm and confidence throughout the session made a fantastic impression, and we are excited to see how they grow into their new roles.

Developing Skills for the Future

Becoming a Media Correspondent will give pupils the chance to develop skills that will support their learning in many areas, including:

  • Speaking clearly and confidently
  • Writing with purpose and audience in mind
  • Working as part of a team
  • Using digital tools safely and effectively
  • Thinking creatively and communicating ideas
  • Understanding how stories are shared in modern media

These skills will help pupils build confidence and learn how to represent their school community in a positive and informative way.

Looking Forward to Their First Reports

The St John Vianney Media Correspondents are now ready to begin capturing the moments, achievements and special events that make our school such a vibrant place to learn. Their reports will be shared throughout the year, and we cannot wait to see the unique perspectives they bring to their new roles.

The team is officially up and running. Keep an eye on our news feed for their upcoming stories.
